Our writing activity will stimulate your child's imagination to come up with and write an alternative ending to the story of the Gingerbread Man, where he escaped from the farm and the jaws of the Fox successfully.
Through our writing activity, your child will be able to:

Copy words and phrases from 'The Gingerbread Man's Escape' interactive google slides onto the writing activity sheet to come up with an alternative ending to the story, 'The Gingerbread Man'.

Use drawing and writing with invented or conventional spelling to communicate their ideas of alternative endings to the story, 'The Gingerbread Man'.

A Step-by-Step Guide for Our Writing Activity
Tune-in Activity: Help the Gingerbread Man Escape!
Materials Needed:

An electronic device (e.g., a smartphone, an iPad, a tablet, a laptop, or a computer)

Main Activity: Draw and Write!
Materials Needed:

Writing Activity Sheet

Writing and drawing materials

Writing Activity Sheet:
The children will draw in the box and write on the penmanship lines below the box.

Sight Words List:
There are 2 pages in the sight words list, and the children can refer to this list to spell sight words that they want to use in their sentence(s).
Instructions

Click on the picture of the 'Gingerbread Man's Escape!' interactive Google slides under the writing resources section above to access the interactive slides.

Throughout the slides, you will see speaker buttons next to the texts. Press on the speaker buttons to play the read-aloud of the texts.

Click on the 'Start' button, and you will see the page with the buttons 'Level 1', 'Level 2', and 'Level 3'. The difficulty level of the activity increases with each level.

Choose the activity level for your child and click on the level's button.

For each of the 3 levels, your child will be prompted to press various buttons and make a choice.

You can press the back arrow button to go back to the previous page, and you can press the home button to go back to the home page of the slides.

Please click the buttons on the screen to choose your options and navigate through the slides instead of pressing the forward or backward keys on your keyboard for an interactive experience!

Instructions
Prior to the start of the activity, please print the writing activity sheet and the sight words list for your child. You can click on the pictures under the writing resources section above to download and print the activity sheet and the list.

After the tune-in activity, give your child the activity sheet and the sight words list.

For each of the 3 levels, your child will be prompted to complete or write a sentence based on the choice he/she made for the tune-in activity.

As your child writes down his/her sentence(s) on the activity sheet's penmanship lines, you can encourage him/her to refer to the sight words list to spell the sight words that he/she wants to use in his/her sentence(s).

If your child does not know how to spell any words, you can spell them for him/her, or you can also prompt your child to spell the words using invented spelling. Invented spelling is when your child spells words based on the letter sounds that they hear in the words.

Guide your child to copy and write sentences using writing conventions (e.g., spaces between words, punctuation, and appropriate use of upper and lower case letters).

Closure Activity: Sharing Session
Instructions

Encourage your child to share with you what he/she drew in the activity sheet.

Invite your child to read the sentence(s) that he/she wrote in the activity sheet.

Praise your child for doing his/her best to complete the writing activity.

You can do this writing activity together with your child again to try out the 3 levels of the interactive google slides and see what the different choices lead to.
